We can’t lay claim to Meat Free Monday in the same way we can with Fish Thursday, Meat Free Monday is an international campaign whereas Fish Thursday is more …local. Still, both form part of our weekly routine and both help our health and the health of the planet!
Just like with Fish Thursday having a designated day to do away with meat, far from being a constraint it actually pushes you to be more creative, and it broadens your culinary horizons. Forgoing meat once a week (but you should totally do it more than that) forces you to try new things and makes you realise that a meal can be tasty and satisfying without having to feast on flesh.
You can also approach it with as much or as little commitment as you wish, an elaborate Ottolenghi vegetable cornucopia would be a delicious (and pricey and time consuming) treat, but beans on toast is also a meat free option!
